Notes Jay-Z & Will Smith’s Fela! Musical Takes Home Three Tony AwardsJay-Z and Will Smith were the talk of the 2010 Tony Awards as their Fela! musical snatched three awards for the evening.
Tagged as associate producers, Hov and the Fresh Prince were on hand to watch Fela! take home “Best Choreography,” “Best Sound of A Musical” and “Best Costume Design of A Musical.”
Fela! received a whopping 11 nominations which included “Best Musical.” The production was also noted as the most original play on Broadway in 2010.
Fela! is a musical that was inspired by the life of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti.
